The Australian Collection of Duckweed Clones (ACDC) is a research collection of Australian Lemnaceae. We collect, identify and maintain local duckweed strains, and make them available to the research community for distribution within Australia.
What we do
Every clone in the collection is documented and identified by PCR barcoding, with whole-genome sequencing used to resolve species where barcoding is ambiguous. Clones are collected either from state land or from private land with the owner's permission. The current holdings — including native strains such as Wolffia australiana — are listed in the database, and we welcome new submissions from collectors around the country.
Who we are
The collection is housed at Adelaide University's Waite campus and managed by the Mortimer and Gilliham labs. The labs are part of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space, and the collection sits within a wider network of Australian and international duckweed research.
The wider community
The ACDC complements the international duckweed stock centres and networks — see the external links page for the Rutgers Duckweed Stock Cooperative, the ISCDRA and its Duckweed Forum newsletter, genome repositories and more.
